7 Amazing Benefits Of Clove Essential Oil

Clove Essential Oil is derived from the clove bud, which is used as a popular spice in Indian homes.

Clove is rich in calcium, iron, sodium, phosphorous, potassium and vitamins A and C. Clove oil is known for its antibacterial, antiseptic, antiviral and stimulating properties. The Latin name for Clove Bud is Eugenia Caryophyllus, and it is often sourced from Indonesia.

7 Benefits Of Clove Essential Oil:

1. Clove Oil For Teeth and Oral Health:

download (1)

Clove oil is an ancient home remedy for dental care due to its germicidal properties. Clove oil  added in many dental products like mouth wash and toothpaste (and you may get this scent in your dentist’s office!) It is very effective for relieving dental pain, mouth ulcers, tooth ache and sore gums.

Clove can help reduce bad breath as it kills the bacteria that causes the bad odors. It can also ease throat pain. Dilute 4 drops of clove oil in a cup of warm water BUT DO NOT DRINK OR SWALLOW. Use this to gargle daily twice a day for instant relief.

Clove is a good addition to your Sesame or Coconut oil for daily OIL PULLING!  Just add 1-2 drops and swish!

However, you should be careful as excessive clove oil can cause burns.

2. Infections:

Clove oil is widely popular for its antiseptic properties. It could be used for wounds, cuts, fungal infections, prickly heat, and inflammation. One can also use it for insect bites and nettle stings. Dilute the clove by adding 5 to 7 drops into an ounce of carrier oil like almond oil or coconut oil and apply.

However, people with sensitive skin should not use clove oil as it may cause burns. ALWAYS DO A PATCH TEST FIRST – that is, put a few of the diluted oil on a small patch of skin and wait to see if it develops itching or redness.  Be sure to read the SAFETY TIPS for using essential oils.

3. Oily (Acne) Skin Care:

Many of the acne-fighting skin creams and lotions contain harsh chemicals which may work but have various side effects. Clove is quite effective for treating acne as it contains a compound “eugenol”, which has anti-bacterial properties. It could help with cystic acne (like tea tree and a few other essential oils) and kill the infections, plus help reduce swelling.

Add 2-3 drops of pure clove essential oil in your skin cream, gel or lotion and use it regularly, specially on the target areas. You might want to add a drop to some witch hazel and use as a tonic or wipe.

4. Relieve Stress:

images (1)

Special clove oil massages have been used traditional in India and up to now for stress and pain. Clove can help reduce mental exhaustion, fatigue, anxiety, and tensions as it has a relaxing effect on the mind.  Just 4-5 drops in an ounce of massage oil.  Also diffuse it during the massage!

5. Headache:

Since clove essential oil can have a soothing effect on the mind and the body, it could be helpful for curing headaches. In 1 teaspoon of sea salt, add 2 teaspoons of almond or coconut oil and 2-3 drops of clove oil. Combine well and use it to massage the forehead. DO NOT GET IN YOUR EYES. It gives instant cooling and provides relief from headache.

You can also swish a washcloth in a bowl of fresh, cool water with 4-6 drops of clove in it – wring and put on your forehead.  Diffuse it as well.

6. Respiratory problems:

Clove helps to clear the nasal passage and kill bacteria while soothing, and thus, is useful for curing respiratory problems like cough, cold, sinusitis and asthma.  It is a good one to combine with eucalyptus.

7. Indigestion:

Do you know why clove is such an important spice in Indian dishes? It is because clove aids healthy digestion and provides relief from digestion-related problems like hiccups, motion sickness, indigestion and flatulence.  But some drops in your favorite cream and rub on your tummy; inhale or diffuse.

8 Ways to Use Frankincense Essential Oil

  1. Support your immune system

Inhale (from its bottle, or put some on a tissue or personal inhaler and breathe, or diffuse it.)  Frankincense is a wonderful essential oil for tranquility, clarity and a nice mood – and it will purify the air and kill microbes to support your immune system.  You could also add some Frankincense to a carrier oil or cream and use it topically to help your immune system.  Or buy a blend already made with Frankincense in it!

  2. Help relieve arthritis or inflammation

Put some drops in a cream or organic oil, and smooth on the affected areas. Arthritic hands, feet and joints love Frankincense.  In the U.K., Cardiff University scientists found that Frankincense could inhibit the production of key inflammatory molecules, helping prevent the breakdown of the cartilage tissue that causes these conditions.(ScienceDaily August 4, 2011.)meditate on beach

  3. Meditate with it

Diffuse while meditating or praying – it’s a great choice and so helpful.

  4. Support your Mind

Apply 1-2 drops of frankincense essential oil in a tsp. of carrier oil to the back of your neck and your temples for better focus or clarity. Frankincense can help with oxygenation.

  5. Shaving Soap

Put a few drops in your homemade shaving soap to support skin!

  6. Zen Out if Stressed – Rub Your Chest

Frankincense in a carrier oil or cream, applied to the chest will invigorate and support deep breaths during occasional stress. It is known to help with respiratory issues, too.

    Lemon oil

  7. Diffuse with Lemon

Frankincense loves to be paired with lemon essential oil for a purifying aroma.  Especially good if someone in your home has a cold – keep those bacteria away!

  8. Make Your Own Facial Serum

2 drops of Frankincense + 2 drops of Lavender and an ounce of carrier oil (we like Baobab, Grapeseed or Jojoba) makes a beautiful face serum!  Use morning and evening for glowing healthy skin. Frankincense is wonderful for regenerating cells and supporting aging skin.

Essential Oils that Help with Fatigue & Exhaustion

For Centuries, Essential Oils Have Been Used as a Remedy for a Variety of Afflictions. We Will Examine Ones Known to Help with Fatigue.

essential oils together

Before the pharmaceutical industry acquired a stronghold over medicine, plants and their oils were one of the only sources of medicine to relieve symptoms and heal.

Over the years, studies have been made about these treatments and are often backed up with historical claims.

Fatigue can be caused by excess physical exertion, but emotional stress, depression, hormonal imbalances, low blood pressure, poor nutrition and dieting, are just a few things that may be causing the fatigue.

Today’s stresses certain cause fatigue and most people feel worn down at some point.

stress at computer

Certain Essential Oils might just help you to feel more energetic, productive and alive – or help reduce the fatigue and burn-out.

Here are some Essential Oils that could help:

1.) Lavender

Lavender is one of the most popular and perhaps best known of the Essential Oils.

It has a calming soapy scent that’s been a favorite for hundreds of years. One of the most medicinally useful oils, it’s no surprise it’s known as the “universal oil.” It’s often used for stress relief, short-term memory enhancement, anxiety relief, restlessness, nervousness, and simply to relax.

Safe to use topically if mixed with a carrier oil, the best way to use it is to apply a few drops of your blend to the palm of your hand then inhale deeply. Some people like to rub a few drops into their temples. Others diffuse it in their home or office.

Studies have shown Lavender Essential Oil helps with loss of appetite, nausea and pain, and can also be used as an antiseptic.

2.) Vanilla

The scent of vanilla often evokes a pleasant memory of home and baking cookies or other delightful treats.

If the scent of warm vanilla makes you feel all warm and relaxed inside, it could be that it’s the fragrance that most closely mimics breast milk.

According to a study performed at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, patients undergoing MRIs reported less anxiety when breathing in vanilla-scented air than those who didn’t. Drop a few drops into a bath, or add to vegetable oil then rub into your temples or the nape of your neck for relaxation.

3.) Rose

joyous looking to sun from field Sublime beauty naturals

Another instantly recognizable aroma is that of the rose. Rose essential oil can be expensive because it can take up to 60,000 roses to create one ounce of rose essential oil.

In a 2009 study published in Natural Product Communications, the group receiving the Essential Oil rather than the placebo through their skin felt greater feelings of calm and relaxation, as well as a decrease in blood pressure and breathing rate.

Another study published in Pharmacology, Biochemistry, and Behavior showed that inhaling rose essential oil reduced anxiety in rats. To use, mix with a carrier oil and apply directly to the skin or apply a few drops into bath water.

4.) Lemon

Lemon Essential Oil is used more often in Europe for Lemonsstress and anxiety than it has been used in the U.S., but its use as a medicinal herb dates back to at least the Middle Ages.

In a study conducted by Berkem, a plant extract company based in France, it was reported that there was a 72% reduction in anxiety-related symptoms after using Lemon for 15 days.

Other studies report similar results. As an added benefit, lemon balm oil has been shown to have antiseptic qualities. To use, mix with a carrier oil and rub into your hands, then breathe in the aroma. Diffuse it or apply topically.

5.) Chamomile

Most people know that chamomile tea is a calming drink. However, many people don’t know that there are two types of chamomile essential oils and they are used for different purposes, although both have some anxiety reducing qualities.

The German type is used more for soothing skin ailments, while the Roman type is used more for anxiety, hostility and paranoia. Roman Chamomile has a wonderful sweet apple scent. To use, inhale the aroma or put a few drops in bathwater, diffuser or mix with carrier oil and apply lightly.

6.) Rosemary

Rosemary Essential Oil has so many great qualities it’s difficult to focus on just one – it’s used for digestion problems, to stimulate blood circulation, to help treat dandruff, for pain relief, and as a disinfectant.

As a stress reliever, Tosemary Essential Oil was shown in a 2007 study to decrease cortisol in the saliva. Excess cortisol has been linked to decreased learning and memory and increased weight gain, as well as blood pressure, cholesterol and heart disease issues.

This same study also found that the treatment, which combined inhaling the oils with oil massages, increased the strength of the immune system.

7.) Frankincense

This herb has been used for thousands of years and is even mentioned in the Bible.

It has many medicinal uses, among them the ability to act as a sedative and anti-inflammatory. It has a comforting aroma, and may be used for anxiety, anger and stress.

Added benefits include calming respiratory conditions and repairing skin problems. It is also said to enhance introspection and insight. It can be applied to the skin or breathed in – diffusing it is very pleasant and helpful.

The Power of Deep Breathing

beach woman carefreeTaking breath into our bodies is the very essence of life. Without it we die. Did you know many of us are forgetting to breathe well and this can affect our wellness?

When we panic or get excited our breathing becomes quick and shallow. However, we often just forget to breathe deeply when we are busy, going about our day or even relaxing.  In fact, it seems we are a nation of shallow breathers!!!  How are you breathing right now? Pay attention to this and be mindful.  Here are reasons why.

???????????????????????????????How and what we breathe is directly associated with our health and well-being. A clinical study reported in Science News and found on maintains that vital lung capacity can extend life. In other words, deep breathing can make you live longer. There are several other health benefits to taking just 10 minutes a day to breathe as deeply in and out as you can.

Taking deep breaths for several minutes slowly releases endorphins in the body. Endorphins are the body’s natural painkiller. It gives you a feeling of over-all well-being and cheerfulness and diminishes the production of stress hormones. For this reason, deep breathing is recommended for panic and anxiety attacks as well as child birth and stressful situations.

Deep breathing causes the diaphragm to extend and distend farther than normal. This movement and added oxygen increase blood flow and help to remove toxins from the organs. The extra oxygen also creates energy to carry out the body’s functions.

Deep breathing has the ability to affect diseases and afflictions like asthma and heart disease, according to Mladen Golubic, a physician in the Cleveland Clinic’s Center for Integrative Medicine.

Yoga Hands. High-res Panorama.

Deep breathing is so important it is a mainstay of Yoga. The Yogic discipline of Pranayama is mastering the art of deep breathing. Deep breathing exercises have been proven to alter the pH of the blood and change blood pressure levels.

Coupling your deep breathing with meditation can add to the beneficial effects. Meditation is simply focusing all attention on the breath going in and out of the body. It isn’t as easy to master as it first seems. It is common for the mind to wander when first practicing meditation. Practice for at least 10 minutes at a time every day and even more than once per day if time allows.

detox, breath and relaxThe deep breathing technique in itself is very simple. Simply breathe in through your nose for six counts, hold your breath for three counts and then breathe out through your nose for six counts, before beginning again. Concentrate on the rush of air and the path it follows through your body. Pay attention to the rise and fall of the diaphragm.

Breathe deeply and fully as slowly as you can. Feel as your stomach goes down and then your lungs deflate.

Deep breathing has been proven through ample research to be beneficial to the body and mind. It takes very little time to execute while imparting multiple advantages. A venture into the world of deep breathing can be successful using either Yogic or meditative practices- or just focusing on doing it at certain times of the day.

The key is just to get started on this amazing journey. Set aside time, perhaps each morning after you wake up, or before you exercise, or at the end of your day.  Try to be mindful of the need to add this to your daily life.

Why don’t you start today?

Essential Oils to Help Headaches

When you have a headache, it often means your day is ruined. You simply don’t feel like doing anything. If you must work or take care of the kids or fulfill obligations, it can be torture.

Essential Oils can work as a great NATURAL treatments for headaches.

Not all headaches are the same, of course, and different Essential Oils can treat different conditions.  However, in case of extreme pain or frequent headaches, please consult your doctor, holistic doctor or other professional.

Here are some of the best Essential Oils to help with various types of headaches and pain:

How to Use Essential Oils to Relieve Headaches

The most common type of headaches are the ones from stress, and can be really painful. In such cases, Peppermint and Lavender Essential Oils work best. Lavender has a really calming effect on the mind. It is used for treating headaches by most aromatherapists. You can pour a few drops in the bath, in the diffuser, or can even rub topically on your skin if mixed with a carrier oil such as Baobab or Jojoba Oil.

Rosemary is another Essential Oil frequently used by aromatherapists in treating anxiety, stress, and pain. Rubbing it on the skin (mixed with a carrier oil) helps improve blood circulation that treats muscle pain and therefore can help relieve headache pains especially brought on by muscle pain. You can use it with a carrier oil, such as baobab, jojoba or almond oil, or pour a few drops in the bathwater or diffuser. Avoid contact with eyes or open cuts.

Bergamot Essential Oil comes from a tree that has a strong lemon aroma used for both anxiety and pain, helpful to relieve headaches as well. According to research, Essential Oils aroma activates the “smell” receptors in our nose and sends signals to the brain that causes relaxation and thus can relieve headache pain.

Eucalyptus Essential Oil is known to help against swelling, nasal congestion, and pain. It is very strong and many know it to help sinus conditions, colds or headaches.  If you suffer from a sinus headache and congestion, Eucalyptus is a good choice.

ZEN Cold & Congestion Essential Oil Blend also uses Eucalyptus, Peppermint, and Rosemary oil along with other essential oils to help relieve Cold & Congestion. You can use it to help against headache pains caused by Cold & Congestion.

For those with stress headaches, and if you suffer from alot of stress, consider the Zen De-Stress Essential Oil Blend. It contains a blend of different essential oils that help with stress reduction, anxiety and even physical pain. (It includes Lavender and Rosemary.)

Sublime Beauty Naturals Love the Power of Essential Oils! We Say “Essential Oils Have SuperPowers!”

5 Essential Oils to Help With Stress

Essential Oils have super powers® and can help with so many aspects of our wellness.

They are derived from plants, and specific Essential Oils can give you relief from stress, anxiety, or depression. They create a natural balance in your body, helping you to heal.

Aromatherapy is the art and science of utilizing naturally extracted aromatic Essential Oils from plants to balance, harmonize and promote the health of body, mind and spirit.

There are a few simple ways you can use essential oils. These are:

1. Taking a whiff of your favorite essential oil (aromatherapy), straight from its bottle or through a diffuser. Different types of diffusers can be used: ultrasonic, nebulizing (humidifying), evaporative or heat burners.

2. Adding it to your shower or bath (letting the steam bring you benefits as you inhale and as your skin absorbs the oils.)

REDUCE STRESS3. If diluted with a carrier oil, applying it topically.

Use 4-6 drops of your favorite essential oil in 3 tsp of carrier oil and apply.

Don’t forget to do a patch test on the skin before applying it all over.

Always put the essential oils in the dish or bottle first, then add carrier oil. It allows the essential oils to blend in well.

Here are five of my favorite essential oils to De-Stress!

1. Lavender

lavender_geranium_oilLavender is the most common Essential Oil used to treat anxiety or stress. It is extracted from lavender flowers via steam distillation. It has over 150 different nutrients which together create a healing effect.

4. Neroli

timthumbNeroli oil is extracted from the Neroli flowers via steam distillation.

Neroli essential oil can help you get rid of chronic depression, drives away sadness, uplifts your mood, and invokes feelings of happiness and joy.

5. Rosemary

Some studies have also proved Rosemary oil can reduce stress by decreasing the cortisol levels in the saliva, which otherwise increase during stress.

Use Clove Oil for Acne and Acne Scars?

How to Use Clove Oil to Treat Acne?

clove oil for acne

Clove oil is extracted from dried clove buds. Since 2,000 years, Chinese have been using clove for its medicinal properties. Assorted nutrients in clove oil enticed cosmetic industries to include it to their products. As it blends with other prominent essential oils, clove oil is extensively used in aromatherapy.   It is very good for wellness and a number of applications. However, let’s look at the subject of acne!

  • The Journal of Immunotoxicology, conclude that clove oil exhibits anti-inflammatory activity. Anti-inflammatory properties reduce acne inflammation and redness of pimples.

  • Another study carried out to check its antibacterial effect concludes that, clove can efficiently restrains bacterial infection. (1)

  • Antioxidant agents residing in clove can kill free radicals and enhance healing.

  • Anti-fungal, antiseptic and analgesic agents combined with other exceptional properties can effectively treat acne blemishes.

  • In 2001, “Girls Life” claims that people who used clove oil for acne gave very positive feedback.

  • Vitamin A and C in this essential oil can enhance collagen production and fade wrinkles.

Clove essential oil should NEVER be applied directly on the skin. You must blend it with a carrier oil or cream.

Method – 1:

  • Blend 3 drops of clove oil with 6 tablespoon of raw honey.

  • Honey is renowned for its humectant and antibacterial properties, which can restrain bacterial infection while clove holds strong antibacterial qualities.

  • Cleanse your face with water and pat dry.

  • Evenly apply the mixed mask over the face and leave it to dry naturally.

  • You can rinse it off after 20 minutes.

Method – 2:

  • Mix clove oil with virgin coconut oil and apply it over acne.

  • This remedy is best used when the climate is dry or in winter.

Method -3:

  • Mix 1 part of clove oil with 10 parts of olive oil or any other carrier oil.

  • After washing your face with lukewarm water, apply the mask evenly or use it as a spot treatment on acne zits.

  • Leave it to dry naturally, and then rinse it off.

  • As clove oil is very strong, it can damage your sensitive skin if not diluted – do not use it “neat” or alone on your skin. You must dilute it with carrier oil.

  • If you experience irritation, stop using it and rinse your skin. Talk to your dermatologist!

  • As an alternative remedy you can use lavender oil, jojoba oil, tea tree oil and raw honey to treat acne.
